Although this is old news to some, back in March 2009 Insidefacebook published an article on how Coca-Cola had accomplished the 2nd most popular facebook Page with 3.3 million fans – second to Barack Obama. The best bit? This wasn’t created by the Coca-Cola marketing team.
Two fans – Dusty Sorg and Michael Jedrzejewski did it themselves. Coca-Cola then approached them and asked to partner with them to have a graceful approach to social media.
According to page data there are now 4,148,184 fans with new fans still peaking in early 2010.
Food for thought on how brands should consider influencer networks already in existence when looking to approach their social media strategy.
