Facebook aided police in Mexico

Media in Mexico say a post on the social networking site Facebook helped lead police to the main suspect in the shooting of the Paraguayan footballer Salvador Cabanas.

The Police were aware that the suspect was  in a relationship with a Colombian model so when her Facebook page was uncovered and her location listed, the police moved in. (Knowing your boyfriend is hiding from the police, it’s probably not best to update Facebook with your current location.)

It seems the social network is becoming a popular tool for the polices service. In India, police are asking users to upload photographs of drivers breaking the law. In New Zealand, Facebook helped police identify a thief and last year the police used Twitter to highlight the type of calls they receive in the UK.
