Are users leaving Facebook?

Whilst chatting to a client this week I got asked if the rumours were true  – are people are leaving Facebook? Some of the headlines that are floating around the media are:

  • 100,000 Britons are said to have deactivated their accounts last month – mail online
  • Facebook, known for its meteoric rise in popularity, lost 1.5 million users in Canada in May – Global news
  • Inside Facebook said overall growth at the social networking giant “has been lower than normal for the second month straight, which is unusual.” – My Fox NY
  • US user numbers slumped to 149.4 million in May, down from 155.2 million. – sky news
So, are we all upping and leaving Facebook or is this a twist on the figures? Techcrunch revealed that Facebook now has 750 million active users. This is an unofficial source and it’s difficult for third parties to have an accurate idea of the official numbers, we’ll just have to wait for an official announcement from Facebook.
There appears to be conflicting reports on this topic and there doesn’t appear to be any indication of what the UK users are up too. Personally, I haven’t seen any of my friends deciding to leave the network and their usage of the site doesn’t appear to have dwindled (I’m still getting plenty of mafia war invites!).
Are you bored of Facebook? Is it getting a little crowded for you?
